Why, yes! Why not?! 😀
Let's imagine the typical studio cake smash; there's a backdrop, some kind of wipe-clean surface and then the cake itself. But really, all you actually need is the cake, and the smasher! All the other stuff is surplus to requirement when you can use nature as your backdrop.
I had more requests for outdoor cake smashes last year than any other year, and they were really fun! Here's why I loved them as opposed to a studio based cake smash:
- The child wasn't restricted in its movement, needing to be kept in front of the backdrop and decor - he/she could get up and potter about the cake and it didn't matter what angle they were at, I could move around with them!
- It didn't matter as much if they got messy cake everywhere - it was way easier to clean up outdoors!
- It's more fun for the little one if you're not constantly re-positioning them, or telling them to sit down, or putting them back in the same place; especially toddlers, they like to be able to move freely and explore!
Have I convinced you? ;) Others seem pretty sure it's a good idea - check out this Pintrest board (try not to get sucked down a Pintrest hole!)
