Well hello autumn! You are very welcome, because summer actually delivered this year in Northern Ireland; I wore shorts many times, and not just to be defiant in the face of a weakly sunny day, which I would then spend wishing I'd put more fake tan on to cover the goosepimples. We ate outside, went to the parks, picnicked a lot, and even, we saved money on not doing indoors activities (soft play/swimming/cinema/soft play/swimming/cinema and repeat) I didn't even wear a cardigan some days (I can hear you gasping with shock) And I actually felt it necessary to wear sunscreen regularly. This is the definition of a decent sunny summer, isn't it?!
So now autumn is rolling in, and can you smell it in the air? It's that certain crispness in the first breath of air you take in the morning, seeing the dew on the grass, needing the extra jumper at night, and starting to think of bringing in sticks for the fire. I'm really looking forward to getting out my woollies and winter coat, summer was good to us and now we can
look forward to getting cold again without the feeling of having been cheated out of the good weather!
Autumn is such a photogenic time of year, and where I live in Co Armagh it looks fantastic, the light filtering through those rustic coloured leaves is soft and gorgeous; it's a great time of year to get some family photos taken.
And taking photos in autumn is really, really fun for children and grown ups. Kids aren't so bundled up in coats and hats that they can't move around, they can run and kick leaves, throw leaves, dive into leaves...basically it's ALL about the leaves! They aren't getting freezing cold hands and noses, they can have great stick fights, hunt for pine cones, compare the sizes and colours of leaves, then go home for hot chocolate and sit in front of the fire. In the meantime, while they're doing all this, if I'm there snapping away - there are some beautiful moments to be captured!
Last years mini sessions were so fun, I'm really excited to do them again this year. I'll be headed to some local woods, Ballymoyer Forest, where there is guranteed to be a carpet of crunchy leaves, excellent sticks for poking, a little stream for splashing in! If you'd like to book in, please contact me! To see some more of my children's and family photography, head over to my Portfolio!
